According to GM#1 <RE06.d> I think the following combinations would be legal for the driver station, can you please confirm:

Wawpi Micro USB OTG power/charging hub (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AU8E25A...&pd_rd_w=jsvYy)
    Anker PowerCore external battery (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CU1EC6Y...2253540&sr=1-5)

    Thank you!

A: Yes. The above mentioned combination of USB hub and external battery appear to meet the requirements of GM#1 & RE16

Is at acceptable to modify an OTG cable by adding a series switch with the sense-line, thus allowing the OTG cable to go from OTG mode to just a USB extension cable?
The intent is to allow the phone to be charged without having to unplug the OTG cable, preserving the phone's USB connection.

A: No. In the driver station, the switch is not an allowed component. In the robot, the addition of the switch would not be an allowed modification per <RE15> and would also fall under the general description of "Additional Electronics" and not be permitted per <RE17>

Is it legal to use this SDK during competitions? Thanks.

    A: No.

Teams are required to use only the official, authorized FTC SDK provided by FIRST to build their Robot Controller App.

An unauthorized version of the FTC SDK includes any version of the SDK that modifies or omits any of the libraries included within the Robot Controller app.

Teams are allowed to create their own classes and Java/Android libraries as well as use 3rd-party libraries, but they are not permitted to alter or remove any of the FIRST-provided libraries.

Is a 3 pin JST PH cable with 26 AWG wire legal for connecting two REV Expansion Hubs? We are specifically asking if the wire gauge is legal, as we could not find any information on a size requirement.
    Thanks

A: No. The REV RS485 connector cable should be viewed as a Sensor cable for the purposes of determining appropriate wire gauge to use when making or extending a cable. The cables that come with the REV Expansion Hub appear to be 24 AWG. Per RE14.j.iv, the same or larger gauge should be used; 24 AWG or larger

<RE12> says "for example: lasers and mirrors are not allowed" specifically for directing a light source.

Q1: Are mirrors allowed to direct an image from the field to the camera?
Q2: Are we allowed to send this image to the Driver Station?

    Answer 1: Yes.
Answer 2: No. There currently is no allowed way to send image data back to the Driver Station phone. Currently, data may only be returned using the telemetry functionality and there is a limit on the amount of data that may be sent at a time.

Question: We have found a way to change the color of the REV Expansion Hub's built-in status LED through the SDK, which is very helpful for debugging. Would it be allowed to change the LED color during a match at competition, with the understanding that an FTA might not be able to offer help if something were to go wrong?

Answer: Yes, but we do not recommend this as it does limit the ability of field personnel to troubleshoot your robot. If you are going to change the color, it would be prudent to not do so until after the start of the match, allowing the LED to properly display the robot's status until the match has begun

Question: According to game manual 1, an external battery is allowed to charge the driver station phone. We are wondering if the external battery is connected to the following USB hub is allowed. Without knowing how it works, the battery may also charge the USB hub. Some teams reported this helped in resolving their gamepad response issues.

Answer: Yes.From the product description, it appears that the power input (micro USB) is only delivered to the peripherals (not to the phone and not to the hub)

Android ZTESpeed Motorola Moto G 2ndGeneration

Answer: The list of allowed phones is found in <RE06> in Part 1 of the Game Manual. There have been no changes to the list of allowed phones. Two variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5 (S5 Active and S5 Sport) were confirmed to be equivalent to the S5.

    Thank you for your time.

Answer: No.The PRIZM controller is not an allowed device

I have spent our entire budget replacing worn motors and bad controllers,

A: The phones referenced in posts #2 & #3 were allowed because they are cosmetic variants of approved phones, not completely different models. The other phones that have been proposed for potential use are different models, not simply variants of a single model.

A: No. Only the phones listed in Part 1 of the Game Manual are allowed.

A: No. The only allowed phones are those listed in the game manual

We would like to turn the flashlight on for brief periods during autonomous for better visualization of the jewels, and potentially the cryptobox with CV. It doesn't appear to be a focused beam. It would be very helpful to have a definitive statement as to the legality of this. Thank you.

A: Yes, the light in the camera is allowed to be used. Care should be taken to ensure there is no risk that the light is interfering with the operation of an opposing alliance robot.

A: Yes. Phone repair as described above is allowed, as long as the repair is solely to return to phone to original operating condition.

A: While there is nothing in the rules that technically prohibits this, teams should be aware of several potential issues:
    • FIRST does not recommend or support using Python in this fashion
    • use Python in this manner minimizes the ability of your team to receive tech support at an event
    • interpreted languages generally are slower/less efficient than compiled languages
    • the Python/Java interfaces are all 3rd party non-commercial products and support for fixes and identified bugs will likely be slow if it exists at all
