  • 2 problems: how can I download Jan. version of Driver Station? can't Import appliance

First problem/question: Is there a way to download the January version of the Driver Station app? I don't know how to do that. When I try to run the robot, it says the Apps are incompatible, a version 1.5 and 1.6. I didn't update it on purpose.

Problem 2. I've had trouble trying to Import the newest version Appliance into the VirtualBox, (so instead of updating it, can I just get the old version of the app?)

When I tried Importing, I removed all the files, but it says a C:..... file is missing and won't Import it, if anyone knows anything about that... Thanks

This has worked well for us.
I've yet to figure out how to determine what build is installed in VirtualBox. When in doubt, I just go to http://http://frc-events.usfirst.org...ages/2016/beta and replace. I had problems with the replacing "LocalAppInventor", but found that this works:

    1. Backup all your App Inventor files with: Projects --> Export all projects
    2. Remove LocalAppInventor appliance (hover over and right click for menu)
    3. From menu, select "Remove all files". The new appliance wouldn't install if I clicked "Remove only". I'd have to uninstall VirtualBox, find and delete all directories and then re-install VirtualBox.
    4. Unzip the projects to a Windows directory. It's a good practice to do this routinely anyway...
    5. Restore your projects by: Project --> Import project (.aia) from my computer. You have to import each project.

I've never had a problem using the above. There may be a way to keep the AppInventor files and update the LocalAppInventor appliance, but I haven't found it.
This is what I tried doing. But I get an error saying a file is missing when trying to Import the Appliance.

To clarify, I have MIT App Inventor that says it is Jan. 2016 version. How can I get the App to match that program? Which version number is for January, is that 1.5? I am only able to open up 1.6 for the App, which is not working. Is the Beta 1.77 App Inventor another totally different update??? Sorry for confusion. I am looking for version 1.5 I think.

I am going to try updating the App Inventor to 1.6 and see if that works to match with the 1.6 version app. It was hard to figure out which version was where, I was getting the 1.77 confused, I think. It would help if the versions were labeled in the title, I had to dig around a lot. Hopefully that solves the problem, going to try that now.

I tried Importing the Appliance with version 1.6 on a different laptop, but got the same error. This is what the "Detail" says of the Error.

          Quote:

Machine settings file 'C:\Users\Robotics\VirtualBox VMs\LocalAppInventor\LocalAppInventor.vbox' already exists.

          Result Code:
          VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
          Component:
          MachineWrap
          Interface:
          IMachine {f30138d4-e5ea-4b3a-8858-a059de4c93fd}

          End Quote

I did not try removing the other one this time, but I still got this same error when I did remove everything on the other computer. Please help. I just want the App to be compatible with the App Inventor. Thanks.

I haven't done step #3-uninstall and reinstall the whole VirtualBox. I'll try doing that probably tomorrow. I didn't really notice that part before. Will try and hope it works.

Okay, CraigRochester's point #3 about Removing all Files, then Uninstalling and Reinstalling VirtualBox finally worked. The process was made harder because finding Version 1.6 was not marked in the Title post. Just some feedback to Tom, please label which version of App Inventor the files are for, since there are now so many versions out there. Thank you.

(and still never figured out problem 1, but that's okay).

http://ftcforum.usfirst.org/showthre...-been-released (just FYI, this is 1.6)

It might be possible (?) to avoid Uninstalling/Reinstalling the whole VirtualBox if you go to the Menu, next to File where it says "Machine" go to "Add", then delete the App Inventor files there. I think that worked on one of my computers (I had to redo this process many times already because sometimes not all files were deleted). Still have one more computer to update, so will see if just deleting the files that way can avoid reinstalling the whole VirtualBox (save time!)

Just tested on my 4th computer, I was able to avoid step #3 with "Uninstall, Reinstall VirtualBox" by going into the VirtualBox menu and deleting the LocalAppInventor files in the "Machine" "Add" menus (then delete the files there).

Saves a lot of time! So far everything seems to work now.

I am reinstalling this version of App Inventor due to Windows 10 upgrade. This error is coming up when trying to open the VM https://www.dropbox.com/s/7xke1ltfv2...error.pdf?dl=0

How can this be fixed so I can open the VM?

https://firstfrc.blob.core.windows.n...01:07:47Z&sp=r In the Install Guide here, step 2.3 "Running the VirtualBox Installer" page 4 of 42, I am having trouble finding the file to click "Run As Administrator" so I'll keep looking for it. I skipped that step, maybe that is an issue. I can't find it though.

No, I'm still getting that same error. I redid everything step by step and still got that exact same error message. This VirtualBox Manager isn't Starting the Local App Inventor, please help!
