  • Installation failed since the device already has an application with the same package

Whenever we try to run a program on Android Studio, we get this error: "Installation failed since the device already has an application with the same package but a different signature. In order to proceed, you have to uninstall the existing application." Pressing OK to uninstall gives us an error saying "Unfortunately ftc robot controller has stopped" every time we try to open the robot controller app. This problem persists when we try uninstalling and reinstalling from the phone's app drawer rather than from android studio.

    Some info:

We are using the Moto G4 Play phone

We got the Robot Controller app from the play store, but it might have been reinstalled when we ran our program from Android Studio.

Robot controller app version (before pressing uninstall): 4.3

The problem started last week but we aren't sure what change exactly caused this.

    thank!!

Try uninstalling FtcRobotController on your phone, do not reinstall from Google app store or anywhere else . When you hit the green triangle you are compiling and installing the RobotController App from Android Studio onto the phone.
When we switch from one laptop to another we get a similar message, but we haven't had the crash problem, it has gone ahead and installed once we tell it yes to the question.

If it is crashing you probably haven't given it permissions yet, and it will simply crash the app instead of asking for them. You can give the app permissions in Settings.
