    As far as I can see the plastic outer shell is fully engaged. Are you not making electrical contact? If so either you might not have put the contact far enough into the shell, or if you bent the contact too far when inserting it into the shell the contact can be pushed back and not make good electrical contact. The tinned copper contact has a curl on the end which goes over and beyond the spring steel part integral with the shell. If you can see the steel part the contact is not far enough in. If you bent the contact it will slip back each time you plug in. It's a little tricky when the contact is straight to wriggle it into the shell. If it is bent you can straighten it a little and try again. Pull fairly hard to see if it stays in place.
