  • Misleading title of Forum - no more Worlds in 2017

By creating two FTC championships at the same level in 2017 FIRST is removing the "Worlds" from the FTC Championship. The winning alliances cannot be called World Champions because they never compete against the winners of the other Championship. It is just another level of play that is not well defined, with international teams in the mix.

Instead of diminishing the event like this FIRST could break the programs up and have a FRC only World Championship at one location and a FLL and FTC World Championship at the other. This would accommodate the growth in the programs and keep Worlds as Worlds.

I agree, and even though (in this video https://youtu.be/01pUHixTx4c) FIRST claims that FRC takes us most of the venue space, I don't see why the most sensible route for growing the program would be to maximize each event. So one location is filled by FRC and the other is filled by FTC/FLL/JrFLL. Admittedly that would favor growing FTC/FLL/JrFLL but a) those are much more accessible programs for the "80%" that don't already participate and b) the current system is heavily skewed towards FRC already (about 20% of FRC teams advance to World whereas only 3% of FTC teams advance).

With this idea, FTC could double in size to 4 divisions (256 teams) and either take twice as many teams from Supers, or double the number of Supers instead and double the number of teams that advance from regionals.
