  • Soft Tiles

Rookies team here. Do we need Tiles or is it nice to have? Also, does anybody have the tiles from previous years that we can borrow? http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-softtiles.htm

If you can afford them, the official tiles are nice to have, as your team will be able to practice and tune knowing exactly how the robot will behave at competition.

That said, many teams use cheaper generic mats such as these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IDRWPG8...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Looks like official tiles are currently out of stock at Andymark, so maybe call or email to find out when they will be available. If it's going to be a while (early season demand) the generics may be your only choice.

We highly recommend one or the other, as testing & tuning on carpet or vinyl tile will give highly varying results.

    Have a great season!

Thank you Michael. I appreciate your response. I ordered from amazon as I didn't want to wait.

You can purchase the official FTC Soft Tiles directly from SoftTiles. Order the 2x2 5/8 inch thick tiles in Dark Grey. They ship them in a box of up to 25 tiles so cost of shipping for 25 tiles is the same as 20 tiles, and the cost of shipping 50 tiles is the same as 36 tiles. Call them before you place your order and ask for the FIRST Tech Challenge discount.

A few years ago, Soft Tiles also offered a discount to FTC teams. You can call them up to ask about it. It ended up being cheaper than buying from AndyMark for us when the discount was figured in.
