Program Chooser/Samostat/NXTShell LabVIEW
LabVIEW users:
As you have probably noticed by now, the 'Update Firmware' function is not placing any of the 'Program Chooser/Samostat/NXTShell' files onto the brick in the new 2012 release.
A variety of workarounds to remedy this have been posted, and are all valid (and fairly complicated). I have searched long and hard for an easier way, and NI finally recommended this reasonable approach.
Add this surprisingly entertaining step when you 'Update Firmware' to get the required FCS files onto your brick in LabVIEW:
Connect to the NXT with a USB cable, and Update Firmware. Take a look at the 'NXT Terminal' list of programs on the brick and you likely won't see the 3 RXE's there (NXTShell, Program Chooser, Samostat).
From the Project Center, under 'Programs' have the kids create a 'New VI' as a 'VI for Computer Target'; rt click on the block diagram select Functions palette - NXT I/O - sound - piano - play red song. Click on the RUN arrow in the menu. [*Name that tune...] Take a look at the 'NXT Terminal' for the list of programs and you'll see all 3 RXE's have been put there !
*You'll have a few songs to choose from. Try Green or Blue....and name that tune!
NI indicated that if we run a vi 'in direct mode' (ie. we are in a vi that is a 'computer target' and hit RUN); then the three RXE's will get put on the brick. Referenced from this ni.com/ftc thread:

OMG! You use NI. I hope you can answer a question we have:
We are having a ton of issues in the autonomous programming. What can you suggest? Nothing the kids have tried has worked, and we were just going for- "drive forward 2 secs". Nothing complicated. We can't find any videos online to help us program it. We didn't attempt it last year, but the kids really want to grew in what they accomplish this year.
Thanks in advance,
Brandy

Yes. I'm sure that we could assist you. If you would like we could talk on the phone or even possibly have the kids Skype if meeting times overlap. Feel free to try to 'private message' me on this forum and we can exchange information.
